The rains have softened the soil. Join us for an evening planting session, Friday Oct 21, 5:30-6:30 pm. Enjoy nature on the hill as we plant a couple of sticky monkeyflowers propagated from seed collected on Albany Hill. Gloves and tools provided. Free t-shirts. Meet at the NE meadow next to Cerrito Creek.
Directions:
Walk north down path from the end of Madison Ave in Albany, or walk east along path on south side of creek from Pierce Street in Richmond, or ford the creek from El Cerrito’s Creekside Park at the south end of Santa Clara Ave.

Also, mark your calendars for Nov. 10, 7 pm, City of Albany workshop on Albany Hill funding. Measure R, set to expire soon, provides funding for improvements and open space purchase on the hill, as well as for creek restoration. The city will be soliciting public input on how to spend the remaining funds for the hill and creeks. More details soon.

Cleanup at Albany Creekside Park

Join Friends of Albany Parks, Friends of Albany Hill, and Friends of Five Creeks for a cleanup at Creekside Park in Albany, Saturday, Oct 1, 9am-12:30 pm. Gloves and tools provided. Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction and clothes that can get dirty. We’ll be pulling invasive plants and picking up trash. Lunch and t-shirt provided. Meet at El Cerrito’s Creekside Park, south end of Santa Clara Ave, next to Cerrito Creek. (3499 Santa Clara on Internet maps).

1) Evening walk, Weds, Sept 21, 5:30pm-6:30pm. We’ll stroll along the north and east sides of the hill, observing plants and animals and picking up trash. Free t-shirts for participants. Afterwards grab a bite to eat at Off the Grid on Fairmount Ave between San Pablo Ave and Carlson Blvd in El Cerrito.  Meet on the NE side of Albany Hill next to Cerrito Creek.

Directions:
Walk north down path from the end of Madison Ave in Albany, or walk east along path on south side of Cerrito Creek from Pierce Street in Richmond, or ford the creek from El Cerrito’s Creekside Park at the south end of Santa Clara Ave.

2) Walkers age 50+: Discover Albany Hill, Thursday, Sept 22, 9am-11am. We’ll ford the creek on stepping stones and gain 300+ ft. elevation, some on narrow trails with nearby poison oak. Wear long pants. long sleeves, and sturdy shoes with good traction. Bring water and sticks if you use them. Meet at El Cerrito’s Creekside Park, south end of Santa Clara Ave. (3499 Santa Clara on Internet maps; easy from AC Transit 72 or 25, or El Cerrito Plaza BART).

3) Last Saturday of the month work party, Sept 24, 9:30am-11:30am. Gloves and tools provided but bring a favorite weeding tool if you like. Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction and clothes that can get dirty. Long pants and long sleeves recommended. We’ll be pulling ivy in the oak forest on the east side. Free t-shirts for participants. Meet on the NE side of Albany Hill next to Cerrito Creek.

You may also see some Pokemons at Creekside Park in El Cerrito and at the creek crossing on the way to our meeting place.

Great news! The city of Albany has decided not to change Measure R at this time, and will be holding a workshop in the next couple of months to further discuss ideas and projects for the hill. Thanks to everyone who wrote letters and came to the city council meeting July 5, and thanks to the mayor and city council members for supporting the hill.

Come out and enjoy the hill this Weds July 13, 5:30 pm-6:30 pm as we take a leisurely walk looking at plants and birds and picking up trash. Free Friends of Albany Hill t-shirts for everyone who comes.

Help the hill on June 25

Saturday June 25 join Friends of Albany Hill and Friends of Albany Parks for the last Saturday of the month work party, 9:00 am-12:30 pm.

Learn about nature on the hill and threats to funding for the hill. The city wants to make the open space fund for Albany Hill available to other parks in the city, although there are many uncompleted projects and land still in private hands on the hill.

We’ll be pulling French broom and other weeds and picking up trash. Gloves and tools provided but bring a favorite weeding tool if you like. Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction and clothes that can get dirty. Long pants and long sleeves recommended. Free lunch provided by the Albany Community Foundation.

Meet at the top of hill at the Taft St turnaround, one street above Jackson St.
